Media advisory: KU professor available to speak about Boeing's presence in Wichita

Donna Ginther, professor of economics and director of the Center for Economic and Business Allowance at the KU Institute for Policy and Social Research, is available to speak with media about Boeing’s presence in Wichita and recent reports that the company is considering leaving Kansas.

Ginther’s major fields of study are scientific labor markets, gender differences in employment outcomes, wage inequality, scientific entrepreneurship and children’s educational attainments. She has been published in several journals, including the Journal of the American Statistical Association, Journal of Economic Perspectives, Demography, and the Papers and Proceedings of the American Economic Association. She has also received research funding from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health and the Kauffman Foundation.

Earlier this week, Boeing announced that it was studying the future of its Wichita site, including whether to close the facility. The company said in a statement Monday that its Wichita facility – which employs about 2,100 people – faces a number of issues, including defense budget cuts, product and service contracts that have matured and expired, and limited prospects for future work.

To arrange an interview with Ginther, please contact Joe Monaco, assistant director of communications, at 785-864-7100 or jmonaco@ku.edu.
