University mourns death of faculty member Doug Niehaus

University of Kansas Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little issued the following statement regarding the death of Doug Niehaus, associate professor of electrical engineering and computer science.

“On behalf of the entire University of Kansas community, I offer the deepest sympathies on the death of Doug Niehaus. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and those close to him.”

Niehaus, 54, died Aug. 21 near Butler, Mo. He earned his doctorate in computer science from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and had been on the KU faculty since 1993. He conducted research through the KU Information and Telecommunication Technology Center. His research and teaching interests included real-time systems, high-performance computing networks, operating systems and network performance and measurement.

Stan Rolfe, interim dean of the School of Engineering added, “We were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Associate Professor Niehaus. We value the contributions he brought to this institution and shared with his students.”

The University of Kansas is a major comprehensive research and teaching university. University Relations is the central public relations office for KU's Lawrence campus.
