Olathe auditor named KU director of internal audit

More Information

LAWRENCE – John Curran, city auditor for Olathe, has been named the new director of the Office of Internal Audit at the University of Kansas, Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little announced today.

Curran has been Olathe’s city auditor since 2006. Prior to that, he was a project manager with Sprint Nextel’s internal audit department and a senior auditor with the Kansas Legislative Division of Post Audit.

“We have a duty to our students and the taxpayers of Kansas to operate the university efficiently, effectively and with the utmost professionalism. John has extensive experience in both government and the private sector, and will work with the university community to properly steward the resources we’ve been entrusted with,” Gray-Little said.

Internal Audit evaluates university operations and works to promote sound business practices and internal control requirements throughout all university units. Under Board of Regents policy, Curran will report to the chancellor.

“Internal Audit has an important role to play at the university by helping to identify potential issues and recommend changes before problems occur. I look forward to working with my colleagues throughout the university community to ensure KU is responsibly and effectively managing its resources,” Curran said.

Originally from Pittsburg, Curran holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Pittsburg State University and a Master of Public Administration from the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University. He is a member of the Association of Government Accountants, Association of Local Government Auditors and the Institute of Internal Auditors, from which he holds certifications as an internal auditor (CIA) and government auditing professional (CGAP).

The University of Kansas is a major comprehensive research and teaching university. University Relations is the central public relations office for KU's Lawrence campus.
