Media advisory: KU researcher available to speak about European financial crisis

George Bittlingmayer

More Information

LAWRENCE — George Bittlingmayer, a distinguished professor of finance and economics in the University of Kansas School of Business, is available to speak with media about Europe's financial crisis and the risk of Greece exiting the eurozone.

European officials are stepping up contingency planning for a possible Greek exit from the eurozone, even as Europe’s leaders struggled to overcome differences on how to resolve the currency bloc’s crisis at a summit meeting in Brussels. The situation could have serious implications on the global and U.S. economies.

Bittlingmayer is the Wagnon Distinguished Professor of Finance at the School of Business. His work has focused on how politics and regulation affect financial markets, investment by business, and mergers and acquisitions. He organized a conference, titled “Sovereign Default: Prevention, Prediction and Consequences,” held at KU in October 2010, and he was previously a research fellow at the Social Science Research Center Berlin.

To arrange an interview, please contact Joe Monaco, assistant director of communications, at 785-864-7100 or jmonaco@ku.edu.

The University of Kansas is a major comprehensive research and teaching university. University Relations is the central public relations office for KU's Lawrence campus.
